Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange data between a server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands that can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the choices are limited as you simply won't have root access to the hosting server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. They are all actions that are performed inside the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

You can even set what password to use from the same location and you'll be able to modify it at any time. All of the commands that are permitted are listed inside the Help articles that we have prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax which you need to use. SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is available as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you may include it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. In any case, you could activate and de-activate the feature with just one click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you could enter the password which you want to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you can also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands which can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and several examples. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this type of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

All our virtual private server packages provide SSH access by default, so you shall not need to add any upgrades or enable anything - the instant the server is set up and you receive its login information, you shall be able to connect via its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've chosen during the signup process. Due to the fact that the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions regarding the commands that you can run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage more or less everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and protected way.
